Even at 11pm...

...my mouth is watering...

Baked Deli Focaccia Sandwich

1 loaf (12 ounces) focaccia bread
1/4 cup prepared pesto
1/4 pound sliced deli ham
1/4 pound sliced deli smoked turkey
1/4 pound sliced deli pastrami (or roast beef)
5 slices provolone cheese
1/3 cup thinly sliced onion
1 small tomato, sliced
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Cut focaccia horizontally in half; spread pesto over cut sides. On bread bottom, layer the ham, turkey, pastrami, cheese, onion and tomato. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning. Replace bread top; wrap in foil.

Place on a baking sheet. Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until heated through. Let stand for 10 minutes (optional! *grin*). Cut into wedges. Yield: 8 servings.

Made this for Father's Day lunch a couple weeks ago with some fresh focaccia bread.

Need to write on recipe:

Nothing is for Nothing

"Cast your burden on the LORD, and He will sustain you; He will never permit the righteous to be moved."
Psalm 55:22

The point is not that we won't be buffeted about, and tried on every side.
Afflicted,
            perplexed,
                          persecuted,
                                          struck down.
BUT, if we cast our burdens, and allow Him to carry the heaviness of these things, He will sustain us through them. Through sickness, loneliness, rejection, a heavy work load, plain ol' tiredness....

We are not moved.
For though our earthly, physical bodies pass through real and tremendous pressures, our spirits can be nestling safely in Him. Come whatever may, from the world, the Enemy, our own sinful natures (mmm...and ultimately allowed by God Himself), if this inner self casts the burden onto Him, they cannot disturb our inner peace, as we look to Jesus Christ, our Strong One.
We are NOT crushed,
NOT driven to despair,
NOT forsaken,
NOT destroyed...
"always carrying in the body the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies....So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light and momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal." (2 Cor. 4:10)

"Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy." (Psalm 61:1-3)

""For God alone my soul waits in silence; from Him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress, I shall not be greatly shaken." (Psalm 62:1-2)

"Trust in Him at all times, O people, pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us." (Psalm 62:8)

Oh to lean more and more upon Jesus! And to cast the things that burden me down upon the One who is strong enough to carry them. He sends troublesome things not to hurt us...but to teach us how much we need HIM!
Nothing is for nothing.

Stillness

"STAND STILL," my soul, for so thy Lord commands:
E'en when thy way seems blocked, leave it in His wise hands;
His arm is mighty to divide the wave,
"Stand still," my soul, "stand still" and thou shalt see
How God can work the "impossible" for thee,
For with a great deliverance He doth save.

Be not impatient, but in stillness stand,
Even when compassed 'round on every hand,
In ways thy spirit does not comprehend.
God cannot clear thy way till thou art still,
That He may work in thee His blessed will,
And all thy heart and will to Him do bend.

"BE STILL," my soul, for just as thou art still,
Can God reveal Himself to thee; until
Through thee His love and light and life can freely flow;
In stillness God can work through thee and reach
The souls around thee. He then through thee can teach
His lessons, and His power in weakness show.

"BE STILL"--a deeper step in faith and rest.
"Be still and know" thy Father knoweth best
The way to lead His child to that fair land,
A "summer" land, where quiet waters flow;
Where longing souls are satisfied, and "know
Their God," and praise for all that He has planned.
